Life Drawing for beginners at the Dovecote

Friday 7th was a great day at The Dovecote, a full day of life drawing with Emma Stroude including lunch at the farmhouse. Everyone really engaged in the day and produced some fantastic work, we hope to repeat this soon.

Autumn Programme

Morning Ceramics 6 Weeks, Monday 18th September-23rd October, 10.00am-1.00pm

Evening Ceramics 6 Weeks, Tuesday 19th September-24th October, 7pm-9.30pm 

Evening Painting 6 Weeks, Wednesday 20th September-25th October, 7pm-9.30pm 

Morning Painting 6 Weeks, Thursday 21st September-26th October, 10.00am-1.00pm 

In addition to this there will be day courses and an exhibition running in November

 

Summer Programme

We are approaching midsummer, morning painting course started last week with a wonderful day of painting outside. At the Dovecote Sligo painting and ceramics courses take place in two studios, and we also offer exhibition space to artists.  

Next week to mark Sligo's Lilly Lolly Craftfest there is an exhibition 'Woodland Hues' of ceramics and drawings by Tessa Marsden. Opening on Saturday 11th from 4pm-6pm and continuing until Thursday 22nd June – open Monday-Saturday 11am-4pm. All welcome. 

Also, as part of the Craftfest, a 2hr Workshop on Friday June 16th ‘Ceramics and Nature’ will take place. This creative workshop includes a walk through the cottage garden and polytunnel for inspiration.  This workshop is suitable for beginners. A Ceramics Workshop will run from 4pm-6pm and again from 7pm to 9pm. €10 charge – Places limited, booking required. Please CONTACT for more details. 

Fast approaching we have a Beginners Life Drawing day with artist Emma Stroude on Friday July 7th from 10.00am-4.00pm to include lunch at the farmhouse.

Winter Works

Installation of our new exhibition Winter Works, is underway at The Dovecote. Combining ceramics, painting and drawing we are exhibiting beautiful works from both local and national artists. Please join us for some spiced apple punch at the opening on Wednesday evening from 6pm-8pm. 

Still Life Masterclass with Cormac O'Leary

We are delighted to announce that Irish painter Cormac O'Leary is hosting a still-life masterclass at The Dovecote on November 26th. This promises to be a truly inspiring day for both budding and experienced painters. Painting life imagery with oils and acrylics from studies in pastel and charcoal, you will explore a variety of techniques and methods. Mixed Media workshop with Lorna Watkins

In November The Dovecote will be hosting a two day workshop with Sligo-based artist Lorna Watkins. This will undoubtedly be a fun, fulfilling and energetic weekend. Lorna will encourage you to explore mark making through a range of exciting creative processes. You will experiment with diverse materials and make your own paints and brushes. This is an excellent opportunity to engage with and learn from a highly skilled artist in a friendly environment. Autumn at The Dovecote

There is that "back to school" feeling as the evenings are starting to draw in. At The Dovecote we are insulating our pottery studio and stacking the woodpile high in anticipation of our Autumn Classes. Ceramics and Painting Classes led by Tessa are starting next week. Students will be exploring a range of materials and techniques and bringing home some beautiful creations. In other news we are delighted to announce that renowned Irish painter Cormac O'Leary will be holding a still life painting masterclass at the end of October. Places will undoubtedly fill up fast so watch this space!
